It's so much fun, the $2000 TB I bought off the track is pretty darn good at it (we're moving up to level 6 next year), and the dressage background actually comes in pretty handy.

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4571933866625297210.post-20404900003031296482014-11-24T15:55:23.926-05:002014-11-24T15:55:23.926-05:00I was thinking it was him too. :)I was thinking it was him too. :)swgarasuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05580667494323261099noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4571933866625297210.post-52376651367815181902014-11-22T21:08:54.599-05:002014-11-22T21:08:54.599-05:00You've been mentioned in a Horse Junkies Unite...You've been mentioned in a Horse Junkies United article on what not to say in a lesson
http://horsejunkiesunited.com/?p=89861Katehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01197789181776030907noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4571933866625297210.post-9480513038849988242014-11-21T19:54:00.465-05:002014-11-21T19:54:00.465-05:00My hardest part in First was learning to be direct...My hardest part in First was learning to be direct, precise, AND effective. I'd like to hear about how you and Ms V learned collection. Because (even though collection is not a requirement at first level), I think that lack of collection is what's kept you stuck at first level, with show scores that are underwhelming. But Ms V was still young then, and you were still training with Coach "Right-for-now", right?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4571933866625297210.post-88783380685642578822014-11-19T18:37:48.142-05:002014-11-19T18:37:48.142-05:00"some agonizing form of expensive self tortur..."some agonizing form of expensive self torture"... this resonates lol. And the judges comments usually reflected this - lots of talk of "potential" and "elegance" and "athletic" and other positive indicators of good things coming our way on the horizon once Ms. V did a little maturing in the mental department, and I did a little improving in the "wear the pants and actually ride your horse" department.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, potential is bullshit. I heard a lot about potential as a kid, and when I grew up I felt pretty depressed about "not reaching my potential". I still do sometimes, to be honest. When I compare myself to others in life in general, I think "Ok, maybe I don't suck" but yeah, potential is kind of an evil lure.

I have a pretty, athletic horse. Her brain will probably never completely mature. I can still be a better rider on her though, and someday with her, or some other horse, maybe I can actually do what I'm trying to do, and potential, which, in the end, actually amounts to "You can't do it", will no longer be an issue.

But I also believe people need encouragement and motivation, and perhaps that's potential's place. Maybe it's a necessary evil- I'm not sure. I'm not sure what else grants hope the way potential does, other than accomplishment. If you don't have accomplishment, maybe potential is the only thing left.

Grim and thinky day for me, I guess.

Enjoyed your post today. :)swgarasuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05580667494323261099noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4571933866625297210.post-85781874656219684832014-11-19T07:59:02.459-05:002014-11-19T07:59:02.459-05:00Haha!
